You never tried a French pastry called canele (canelé).
These little morsels are nothing like anything else I've ever tried. Rich, moist, custardy interior is sealed into a thin, crispy, caramelized shell.
As you bite into them, there is a distinct crackling sound; then your teeth sink into soft, sweet, and custardy goodness.
They are as beautiful to look at as they are delicious to eat.
